Privacy policy

Last updated: 7 July 2026

🚨The short version: your journal never leaves your device. Ephemeris collects no analytics and cannot read anything you write in the app. If you use the contact form, that message is sent through Netlify Forms.

What Ephemeris stores

Ephemeris keeps everything in your browser's localStorage, on your own device. That covers:

  1. Your profile:
name, pronouns, chosen icon, dragon roster, and sensory/support preferences from onboarding
  2. Your sightings:
every logged dragon, with its optional context tags and field notes
  3. Your settings:
accessibility choices like text size, readable fonts, reduced motion, high contrast, and dark mode
  4. Local account details:
if you create an account, your email and a one-way hash of your password are stored on your device only – your actual password is never stored anywhere

None of this is transmitted, synced, or backed up to any server. If you use Ephemeris on two devices, each keeps its own separate journal.

What Ephemeris doesn't do

  • No analytics or usage tracking of any kind
  • No advertising and no ad networks
  • No cookies
  • No selling or sharing of your journal data – it stays on your device

Contact form

If you send a message through the contact form, the information you type into that form (name, email address, and message) is submitted to Netlify Forms, which handles the form submission and makes it available to me in the Netlify dashboard. Netlify may also process technical information needed to deliver the form, prevent spam, and operate the service. You can read Netlify's own privacy information here: Netlify Privacy Policy.

Contact form messages are only used so I can read and respond to what you sent. They're separate from your Ephemeris journal, which remains local to your browser.

Third-party services

Ephemeris loads its two typefaces (Cinzel and Merriweather) from Google Fonts. When your browser fetches them, your IP address is technically visible to Google, as with any web resource. Google says the Fonts API is designed to limit data collection, storage, and use, and that Google Fonts is not used for tracking or advertising. No other third-party services are used.

Your control

  • You can edit your profile, roster, and settings at any time from the app's settings
  • 'Settings' β†’ 'Delete all my data' permanently erases your profile and every sighting from the device
  • Clearing your browser's site data for Ephemeris removes everything as well

Because I never receive your journal data, there's nothing for me to delete on my side. Deletion on your device is always complete and final.

Children

The Ephemeris journal collects no personal data from anyone, children included. The contact form is intended for general questions and feedback, not for children to submit personal information.

Changes to this policy

If Ephemeris ever adds features that change how data is handled— for example, optional sync between devices —this policy will be updated first, with the changes explained in plain and simple language, and any new data handling will be opt-in.
